In Costa Rica I asked a young campesina (country girl) "why do you drink such bad coffee?", she replied... we drink coffee with blood. I got the idea for the song which explores this folkore and the reality that many people who sweat to bring us our choice starbucks blends are drinking a low grade mix of coffee, sugar, and something that makes it taste like sangre (blood)!
